HUNTSMAN'S HUT
Huntsman's Hut: Text
A collaboration between Architect and Builder (Client), Huntsman's Hut is designed as a short term stay shelter in one of Victoria's harshest environments. The brief was simple, to create a cost effective, well designed space, containing the very basics for short term living for both the client and their partner.
Placed centrally on a rural woodland site, the structure is tested by the extreme weather year round, while also located in a high risk bush fire zone. A large water tank south of the structure is setup to feed sprinklers to the roof in case of fire, while construction and materials meet the local bush fire zone regulations.
Borrowing material and spatial cues from early small Victorian miner’s huts, this hut retains the same simplicity in both form and material selection. Blackened galvanised sheeting encases the south, east and western facades, absorbing the suns heat, while translucent poly-carbonate sheeting over double glazing allows for natural light to pass through to the internal living space.
Within is a small living space with a pot belly, ensuite with shower, kitchenette with a single sink and storage, and lastly perched above, a cosy sleeping space for two.
